THE TWO-YEAR-OLDS: THEIR BACKGROUND, EXERCISE GALLOPS

QUICKGALLOP
KINGSTON, Jamaica - Nine ‘young ones’ will participate in the first two-year-old contest of the 2022 racing year on Emancipation Day (August 1, 2022) at Caymanas Park. The event over three furlongs (600 metres) is sponsored by the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) | Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association.
The overall purse at stake based on the number of horses nominated to race is $1.25 million with the BGLC providing the additional amount of $1.75 million to be shared by the owners only of the first six horses to finish the race. Last year Prncsshootingstar won this event.
The first two-year-old review is published below.
  1. ACKNOWLEDGE ME: (b f by Key to Power out of Gentle Officer) – trained by Michael Thomas with Shane Ellis in the saddle. This filly is said to be progressing well in the mornings. Acknowledge Me faces some well-advanced rivals and will have to wait.
  1. VOLATILITY: (b f by Hedge Fund out of Fashionista) – trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster aboard. One of the more advanced among these having been active at exercise several times. On Monday, (July 11), Volatility was clocked at 34.4 seconds for three furlongs, finishing five furlongs (straight) in 1:03.3 seconds (easy). Then on Monday (July 18), the filly travelled three furlongs accompanied by Minidewak in 35.3 seconds. Note, Volatility is the first Hedge Fund progeny to race in Jamaica.
  1. THALITA: (ch f by Soul Warrior out of Luminous Trieste)– trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Anthony Thomas. Another of the more advanced, Thalita is said by clockers to be fast out of the gates. On Sunday (July 17), Thalita galloped three furlongs in 34.3 seconds finishing five furlongs (straight) in 1:04.2 (easy). On July 24, Thalita galloped 34.3 seconds, ending five furlongs (straight) in an easy 1:02.1.
  1. LEGIT BOSS: (b f by Casual Trick out of Bilingual) trained by Anthony Nunes and ridden by Dick Cardenas. Legit Boss is seen as having a legitimate chance of winning especially after gallops of 35.3 for three furlongs and 35.2 for the same distance a week apart. Getting on and can be listed on the board.
  1. AWESOME ANTHONY: (ch c by Soul Warrior out of Antoinette) – trained by Patrick Taylor, ridden by Javaniel Patterson. Coming on, not ready yet.
  1. MILOS: (b c by Casual Trick out of The Vibes Lady) – trained by Anthony Nunes with Reyan Lewis in the saddle. This chestnut colt has been a regular at morning exercise. On Monday (July 18), Milos clocked 35.3 seconds for three furlongs, and one week later (Monday, July 25), he galloped another three furlongs in 35.0 seconds (straight), ending five furlongs (straight) in 1:03.4 easy.
  1. BOLD LEADER: (ch c by Bold Conquest out of Excellence) – trained by Jason DaCosta with Omar Walker in the saddle. This colt has been playing second fiddle against his stablemates at morning exercise. Bold Leader is slowly developing and may at this time not be ready to manage these. On Sunday (July 10), Bold Leader galloped three furlongs in a time of 35.3 seconds, ending with a time of 1:05.1 (easy) for five furlongs straight. Note, Bold Leader is the first offspring of Bold Conquest to race in Jamaica.
  1. NOISY LADY: (b f by Savoy Stomp out of Raise Your Voice) – trained by Philip Feanny with Paul Francis holding the reins. Trainer Feanny won this race last year with Prncsshootingstar, and this year he can repeat with Noisy Lady. This bay filly has been making progress in the mornings, clocking 36.0 seconds for three furlongs on Saturday, July 16, galloping from the gates. On Sunday (July 24), Noisy Lady galloped three furlongs with Talona in 34.4 seconds, finishing five furlongs (straight) in 1:02.1. Apart from showing up at exercise Noisy Lady benefits from the outside draw in this short contest.
  1. WHIZZ KID: (b c by Northern Giant out of Mayken Joy) – trained by Jason DaCosta with Jerome Innis aboard. Whizz Kid on Sunday (July 10) galloped three furlongs in 35.2 seconds, with the five furlongs (straight) run clocked at an easy 1:04.2. On Sunday (July 24), Whizz Kid again galloped three furlongs this time in 35.3 seconds and five furlongs (straight) in 1:02.1.
