The ‘Danes’ ruled, two wins for Nelson, Dawkins

KINGSTON, Jamaica - KINGSTON, Jamaica – THE QUICK GALLOPER continues the current feature of race by race assessment following the conclusion of each race day.
The target date for analysis is Saturday, March 19, 2022. Readers, please note that this analysis excludes certain races, which will be dealt with in separate articles.
RACE ONE – The Citadel was the victor and given the prominence of that win, this event will be the subject of a separate article.
The Citadel - Dane Dawkins
RACE TWO – This three-year-old and upwards high claimer ($1 million - $800,000), at seven furlongs proved to be the undoing of the majority of punters, after the win by the Maurice Crooks owned and trained Raw Liquid at searing odds of 23-1. Raw Liquid although paying his dues, has not been able to handle Overnight Allowance and seems to have found his rightful place in high claiming. It was the six-year-old’s fifth career victory from 59 starts, and the second this season for Crooks. Parchment was winning his fifth for the year.
Raw Liquid - Phillip Parchment
RACE THREE -That Better Best was able to win her first race was an achieved unto itself. The first of two wins on the day for jockey Dane Nelson, trainer Dennis Pryce, and the owners’  syndicate, Busy Racing Stable. A word on Pryce, who has been doing well of late. He has now saddled six winners in 2022 from a small stock. Long may it last for the veteran trainer.
Better Best - Dane Nelson
RACE FOUR – This five-year-old (non-winners of four) contest was hit hard by the late withdrawal of two entrants leaving a field of six. All semblance of competition was therefore removed leaving the path clear for the hard knocking Tomohawk to score an easy victory by almost nine lengths. Tomohawk is now in Overnight Allowance where he is going to find it difficult. He was the first winner on the day for trainer Jason DaCosta and the only one for champion jockey Anthony Thomas.
Tomohawk - Anthony Thomas
RACE FIVE – As the three-year-olds come out of their stalls and onto the race track, the maiden races are always a source of attention. Emperorofthecats, owned, bred, and trained by Carl Anderson promptly got off the mark in what must be said was not the best field of opponents. Yet, Anderson must be congratulated for his long and deep commitment to local racing as an owner, breeder, and trainer. It is well-known in racing circles that Anderson is the official “Cat Man’, with almost all his horses bearing the ‘Cat’ name. This truly is what the folklore of horse racing is made of.

RACE SIX – This four-year-old and upwards non-two call over the five-straight course yielded a long overdue win for Baton Rouge with DaCosta saddling his second on the day. It is not often that we see Reyan Lewis riding a winner for DaCosta, so, maybe, this is a precursor of what is come. Lewis has already shown that he is quite a capable rider but a number of issues, some non-racing, have served to stymie his career. This was the race for the Jason's. The winning trainer was Jason, while the nickname of Reyan Lewis is Jason.
Baton Rougue - Reyan Lewis
RACE SEVEN – It was so good to witness the resurgence of Action Ann. THE QUICK GALLOPER has chosen to investigate more and to publish the findings in another article. The recent surge to form of jockey Youville Pinnock continued with the win on Action Ann.
Action Ann - Youville Pinnock
RACE EIGHT - The 2022 Chairman’s Trophy was a humdinger involving Oneofakind and Calculus, and will be dealt with separately. The winner Oneofakind gave Dane Nelson his second winner.
Oneofakiind - Dane Nelson
RACE NINE – Sharp Skirt and Buckaluck traded blows in this Optional Claimer ($250,00 - $200,000) at six furlongs from the start. Sharp Skirt then moved away in the straight to give Dane Dawkins his second win.
Sharp Skirt - Dane Dawkins
RACE TEN – The betting said 4-5, and this time Milkman delivered to give Busy Racing Stable their second and the first for jockey Tevin Foster.
