KINGSTON, Jamaica – Stevie The Great, owned, and trained by Colin Ferguson won impressively first time out in the Caymanas Saturday fifth at odds of 7-1.

Ridden by apprentice Matthew Bennett, Stevie The Great’ victory came in a four-year-old and upwards maiden contest coming down the five-straight course. This race was run in honour of late jockey Alexander Gopie.

Drawn at post position five in a full filed of 16 runners, Bennett brought Stevie The Great over to the favoured outside rails with the minimum of fuss.

In the final two furlongs, Stevie The Great showed his class, by streaking clear or rivals to win by five lengths.

The 3-5 favourite Take Two (Dane Dawkins) was second with 5-1 chance Sheer Beauty (Samantha Fletcher) third.
