Three-Year-Olds: Locally Bred Non-Winners of Two & Maiden Foreigners Distance: 1 Mile | Starters: 6
The third event on Saturday’s card brings together a mixed field of lightly raced three-year-olds, some still finding their footing, others returning from high-profile assignments.
With six runners set to tackle the mile, The Quick Galloper offers this insight into how the race might unfold.
1 – STAR QUEST
Star Quest returns with the tongue tie added, a signal of intent from connections. Though his two prior efforts at this level ended well behind the leaders, he showed flashes of promise, especially when finishing third. The mile should suit his running style, and with the experienced Shane Ellis retaining the ride, Star Quest could be a serious player.
2 - ALMASTY LIST
Back in action just seven days after her last outing, Almasty List is still adjusting to the demands of the non-winners-of-two class. While she’s game, she hasn’t quite shown the readiness to threaten just yet. A useful run is expected, but a win may be asking too much at this stage.
3 – BOSS MAN
Boss Man returns from a stint in elite company, having contested both The Kingston and the 2000 Guineas. He hasn’t raced at the non-two level since breaking his maiden on April 19, and this drop-in class could be just what he needs to rebuild confidence. Consider this a developmental outing, he’s learning, but the talent is there.
4 – NO APOLOGY
A maiden winner over 7½ furlongs back in May, No Apology has since been campaigned over shorter trips. Expect him to revert to front-running tactics, attempting to dictate the pace early. If left alone up front, he could prove hard to reel in.
5 – PERFECT AFFAIR
After struggling against top-tier fillies in The Portmore and the 1000 Guineas, Perfect Affair now finds herself in a more forgiving field. She’s a late closer by nature, and with a milder pace anticipated, this setup could play right into her hands. With one win from seven starts, she’s well-positioned to double that tally.
6 – QUANTUM STAR
The lone maiden in the line-up, Quantum Star is still very much a work in progress. While she’s gaining experience, she’ll need significant improvement to factor here.
The Quick Galloper's Verdict
Perfect Affair and Star Quest appear best suited to the mile and the pace scenario. Boss Man’s class drop is intriguing, while No Apology could steal it if left unchecked. A tactical race awaits, watch for a late surge from the closers.
