KINGSTON, Jamaica - Gilbert stormed in from below the distance to sweep by all before him in Division One in a native-bred three-year-old (non-winners of two) for locally bred horses and a maiden for imported horses going 1000 metres straight at Caymanas Park on Saturday, June 26, 2022.
Installed a profitable 3-1 shot with a top weight of 56.0 kg, with the veteran jockey Everton Miller up, the Philip Feanny-trained imported, three-year-old Equus Farm bred chestnut colt by Jack Milton out of Causin A Storm by Giant’s Causeway landed the gambit by a neck-length victory, in a time of 59.2 seconds, chasing engaging split fractions of 22.3 x 45.0 seconds.
Perfect View, the 1-2 morning-line favourite, who led at a devilish pace ridden by Bebeto Harvey until surmounted at the death by Gilbert to finish second with another 3/1 choice Buzz City Light getting up in time for third money under Anthony Thomas ahead of KP Choice with Andre Powell in the irons to close the frame.
At no time during the running of the race did Gilbert look out of it, staying on manfully within striking distance of the leader Perfect View, and according to jockey Miller after the race: “I knew I had a lot of horse in hand although not easiest to ride. So, my instruction from the capable master trainer Mr Feanny was just to ride a good race, because he cannot tell me how to ride. My response was, thank you, I am grateful. I will win. He (Mr Feanny) is a great trainer and I responded likewise with a result that showed quality in the horse’s preparation.”
