KINGSTON, Jamaica - Four-year-old American-bred chestnut filly Double Diva romped home to her fourth-consecutive victory on local soil in a three-year-old and upwards Overnight Allowance contest over seven furlongs (1,400m) last Saturday, May 28, 2022.
The Bourbon Courage – Maude Onions offspring made one move to win the event by an impressive five lengths, clocking a decent 1:26.2 time for the distance.
Ridden by Anthony Thomas for trainer Jason DaCosta, Double Diva led the field ahead of The Good Witch (Dick Cardenas), Eroy (Bebeto Harvey) and Den Street (Roger Hewitt) down the backstretch. Double Diva then upped the tempo navigating the half-mile turn before flowing elegantly in deep stretch to win without any fuss.  Money Monster (Reyan Lewis) came through late for second place ahead of Eroy.
“She [Double Diva] was working well coming into the race and being an ultra-talented filly, we always had high hopes for her. She has had her issues and that’s why she has been racing sparingly, but she is very talented and so we will just pick our spot and move on from there.
“From day one she has shown that she is very talented but because of her issues, she has not raced that much and so right now she is good to go. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that she remains sound and happy and will continue to improve,” DaCosta said.
He continued: “We will see how she comes out of this race as her next race will be in the class above which is the Open Allowance class. Not sure which one as yet but we will look at the programme and choose our spot. Every time you go up in class and win impressively, you must be happy.”
