KINGSTON, Jamaica - AMERICAN-BRED sprinter, the filly Go Deh Girl, returned to the track in unbeatable condition from a short break to win the Pari-Mutuel Department Trophy over the straight-five course at the Open Allowance level at Caymanas Park on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
Conditioned by champion trainer Anthony Nunes for owner Lakeland Farms Ltd, the four-year-old dark bay made use of the outside draw by racing prominently before being asked by her rider Tevin Foster to push on when the field hit the main track.
Go Deh Girl won conveniently by 4 3/4 lengths as a 2/1 betting option in a time of 58.2 seconds, with fast fractions of 22.2 x 44.4 seconds.
God of Love, the 4/5 favourite with Robert Halledeen aboard, finished second with Duke (Dane Dawkins) third.
“It was a performance that pleased. Go Deh Girl worked well, she looked well, and was coming off a layoff — and she likes to run when fresh. She was well-drawn and the handicaps were to her advantage. The advantage was there for her and she duly obliged.
“We gave Go Deh Girl some time off. The last time she ran she was on the inside, and she does not like to be crowded in and does not like when she is forced. It was a crowded scene and she runs better in smaller fields so, we just gave her some time off to recover and she came back and trained very well. “She worked well last Saturday. Another favourable aspect is that the draw was perfect, and Tevin knows her well and got the job done,” Nunes said.
