KINGSTON, Jamaica – The third race on Sunday, February 5, 2023, is the annual renewal of the Mercury Sprint.

The Mercury Sprint is confined to three-year-old colts and geldings. The six entered will compete over five furlongs straight.

The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the six starters is placed below for the perusal of readers.

1 – CURLIN’S NOON is a bay colt (March 17, 2023) by Perfect Curlin out of Noon It Is trained by Anthony Nunes with Tevin Foster aboard. Finished third on his debut (January 22). Since then Curlin’s Noon has continued to progress at exercise. He will give an improvement on his first effort and is expected to get really close.

2 – KINDRED SPIRIT is a chestnut colt (April 25) by Key To Power out of Wings of Hope trained by Anthony Nunes with ANDRE Powell in the saddle. This first-timer will benefit from this opening run.

3 – RIDGE LINER is a bay colt (May 27) trained by Dale Murphy with Shavon Townsend in the saddle. Finished second, over seven lengths behind El Afortunado, when he started his racing career on January 7. That run is enough for Ridge Liner to have an interest in winning this one.

4 – TRULY BEGOTTEN SON is a bay colt (March 16) by Bern Identity out of Sexy Moon trained by Patrick Smellie with Roger Hewitt. Has been making the rounds since the start of this season. Truly Begotten Son started his career with some promising efforts, then on his last visit ran his worst race to date. With his experience, Truly Begotten Son has a chance of getting home in front.

5 – ROARING THUNDER is a grey colt (April 16) by Speith out of Little Thunder trained by Gary Griffiths with Robert Halledeen aboard. The most experienced of this lot with five starts to his credit. Roaring Thunder is progressing slowly in his career, with another favourable effort expected on Sunday.

6 – BAD INVESTMENT is a bay colt (January 30) by Casual Trick out of My Angel Briannah trained by Dennis Pryce with Andre Martin aboard. Bad Investment is making his debut and will gain from the experience.
