The bang-a-rang of two winners over 20-1

KINGSTON, Jamaica - THE QUICK GALLOPER’s race-by-race assessment following the conclusion of each race day continues with the target date for analysis, Sunday, April 3, 2022. Readers on QUICKGALLOP.COM please note that this analysis excludes certain race(s), which will be dealt with in separate articles.
RACE ONE – Punters were off to a good start when 12-year-old bay horse Sir Frederick obliged at odds of 2-5. The win by Sir Frederick was another indication of what can be the outcome due to an equipment change, as Sir Frederick now under the care of trainer Dennis Thwaites raced with the blinkers on. It was win number seven this season for Thwaites and the second for winning jockey Hakeem Pottinger. At this early stage in the day’s proceedings over 3,000 tickets were still live in the Reggae 6. Of note, Sir Frederick was number 6.
Sir Frederick - Hakeem Pottinger
RACE TWO – The doors on all wagers were blasted wide open after the win by 26-1 chance Queen Deftiny, a rare winner for jockey Natalie Berger. Of note, Queen Deftiny was number 6.

RACE THREE – The three sixes (6-6-6) clashed in the third with the success of born-again foreigner Bold Sami obliging with a late surge running from barrier number 6. The win by Bold Sami completed a clean sweep of the first three races by horses drawn at post-position six. It did not help most punters either that Bold Sami trained by Cashbert Khwalsingh and ridden by Roger Hewitt won at odds of 25-1. Now the cats were well and truly among the pigeons. This was the first winner for veteran trainer Khwalsingh this season from 14 starts.
Bold Sami - Roger Hewitt
RACE FOUR – Another long-time conditioner Randolph Scott reaped success when his charge Sensational Gold ridden by Oneil Mullings won his second race from seven starts. Sensational Gold won at odds of 2-1.

RACE FIVE – This event turned out to be a romp for the Fitzroy ‘Pumpkin’ Glispie trained Prince Marshall (Reyan Lewis) at a distance (nine furlongs and 25 yards), that is rarely offered these days. ‘Pumpkin’, a former top-notch jockey, has curtailed his training operations in recent times, as evidenced by him only having eleven starts in 2022. Prince Marshall was Glispie’s second winner this term, while Lewis continued what seems to be a resurgence. Again, a change of equipment more than likely assisted in the victory by Prince Marshall, who raced with the visor on.

RACE SIX – Another of the three-year-old maiden races this time contested for over five furlongs straight. Thirteen horses inclusive of six first-time starters participated in this event with horse number two Thalos creating excitement with his 9 ½ length victory in a time of 1:00.2. Thanos in demonstrating potential in his second outing, has suddenly jumped, into, at least, some consideration for the upcoming Classic. This was the first winner on the day for trainer Anthony Nunes. The Reggae -6 after 26-1, Queen Deftiny, and Bold Sami at 25-1 went to one astute punter who collected over $5.6 million.
Thalos - Shane Ellis
RACE SEVEN – It was a romp for the 1-2 favourite Baltusrol, trainer Jason DaCosta and jockey Anthony Thomas. Thomas has been rather quiet in recent times, with Baltusrol being his only win over the Saturday – Sunday race days.
Baltusrol - Anthony Thomas
RACE EIGHT – An historic win in the Prince Consort Stakes by Emperorofthecats. This race will be looked at in a separate article.
Emperorofthecats - Bebeto Harvey
RACE NINE – Coming down in grade Nuclear Noon was a confident winner. This race will be looked at in a separate article.
