Girvin, a Grade 1 winner and popular young sire, collapsed and died unexpectedly after coming in from his paddock Saturday morning at Airdrie Stud, Thoroughbred Daily News reports. He was 12.
Several of his offspring have raced in Jamaica, including Girvano (out of Summer In Midway; Grecian Light (out of Mo Zin); Imjustagirl (out of Summer In Midway); Commandant (out of Alotofappeal) and Sheer Delight (out of Pantyhose).
Girvin, the son of Tale of Ekati recently completed his eighth season at stud, having resided at Airdrie Stud in Kentucky since the 2023 breeding season. He began his stallion career at Florida’s Ocala Stud in 2019. He stood the most recent breeding season for an advertised fee of $30,000, and his first crop of Kentucky-sired runners are 2-year-olds of 2026.
From five crops of racing age, Girvin has sired 152 winners and compiled progeny earnings of $18.8 million.
The biggest stars among his runners are Grade 1 winners Dorth Vader and Faiza. The latter sold to Godolphin as a broodmare prospect for $4 million at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton November Sale at the conclusion of her racing career.
