KINGSTON, Jamaica – If ever there was a straight duel in the years of racing at Caymanas Park, well, that occurrence took place moments ago in the seventh race when leading rider Dane Nelson and second in the tables Anthony Thomas locked horns.
Nelson aboard the Spencer Chung trained Truly Amazing and Thomas with the leg up on the Anthony Subratie conditioned Sir Kel were engaged in a stirring contest coming down the five straight in a Restricted Allowance 111 offering for four-year-olds and upwards – non-winners – of four.
The lead between these combatants changed several times during the 58 seconds it took Truly Amazing to claim victory by half-a-length.
Then if that duel was not enough another of the current top jockeys at the Park, Robert Halledeen joined the fray in the last furlong on Formal Fashion. Three top jockeys across the track riding as if their lives depended on it. Sir Kel finished second and Formal Fashion third.
Truly Amazing was again showing her likeness for the straight course as this was her fourth start going the distance from which she has recorded four wins.
This filly has had three unsuccessful attempts running around the bend.
