Further and Beyond
Further and Beyond
KINGSTON, Jamaica - Seven runners will contest the inaugural running of the Clovis Metcalfe Cup, a three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance event at 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m).
1 - I’VE GOT MAGIC (USA): (4 b c by Fast Anna – Lil Miss Richie) – This foreigner won the Seeking My Dream Trophy (May 22) over the same distance as tomorrow’s race - 7 ½ furlongs. I’ve Got Magic was ineffective on June 22 going  nine furlongs and 25 yards. Returning to a distance he prefers, I’ve Got Magic will be more effective but he likes to lead or sit close by the pacesetters, and with Billy Whizz and Mahogany present, this American-bred colt will have difficulties gaining the lead advantage.
2 - CALCULUS: (4 b c by Sensational Slam – Trinket Box) – Calculus has not been at his consistent best in his last two races, although finishing in the frame on both occasions. He is the type who can sit behind the leaders and then charge with his strong late kick in the straight. This cup race fits every profile of Calculus, even allowing rivals weight.
3 -BILLY WHIZZ: (4 ch g by Northern Giant – Khadiliah) – Was just denied on June 4 by his stablemate I Am Fred travelling nine furlongs and 25 yards. Billy Whizz is versatile, can lead or stay off the pace and is gritty enough to give of his best in the final part of his races. Billy Whizz despite all his good tendencies will find it difficulty winning this one.
4 -MONEY MONSTER: (5 b g by Casual Trick – She’s Traditional) – Racing at this level for the first time, therefore time is required to catch the pace in this class.
5 - MAHOGANY: (5 b g by Casual Trick – She’s Traditional) – Mahogany is the highest rated horse at this time after his victory by 11 lengths on May 7. He is blessed with speed and will lead in this event. Leading is one thing, holding on is another, especially against especially Calculus and Further and Beyond. This is an acid test for Mahogany, giving him no room for any errors.
6 - FURTHER AND BEYOND: (4 ch c by Blue Pepsi Lodge – Rumble) – Horse of the Year with just one win from three starts this season. Further and Beyond last raced on May 22 when finishing third behind I’ve Got Magic and Runaway Algo in the Seeking My Dream. Further and Beyond has stepped up at training really and with a break of 41 days is well-tuned for this competitive assignment. With his ability of racing close to hot front runners, Further and Beyond is provided with a good opportunity to earn his second win of the year.
7 - I AM FRED (USA): (4 b g by Golden Lad – Happy Hailey) – Won the Distinctly Irish Trophy feature over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on Saturday, June 4, 2022. I Am Fred scored a powerful 1 ¼ length win in a time of 1:54.1. I Am Fred now meets the cream of the crop and has to produce even money if he is to be successful.
