KINGSTON, Jamaica – After a prolonged break of 403 days, the 2018 Horse of the Year, Will In Charge returns to competitive racing on Independence Day on the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park.
Trained by Robert Pearson and to be ridden by Omar Walker, Will In Charge is one of nine horses entered in an Overnight Allowance call travelling 7 ½ furlongs.
Will In Charge's task of winning is not an easy one as he has to deal with some talented and tough rivals.
Below Quickgallop.com provides readers with an assessment of the chances of all nine participants in post-position order.
1 – RACE CAR: {USA) – (3. gr/rn. c by Race Day – McDuffie) – This foreigner’s winning streak of three straight came to an end on July 25 over 9 furlongs and 25 yards. Then he finished fourth behind a rejuvenated Supreme Soul. Having learned a lot from that encounter and with Dane Nelson returning to the saddle, Race Car is bound to rebound after his defeat hiccup. The trip of 7 1/2 furlong is going to suit Race Car much better.
2 – UNCLE FRANK: (6. dkb. g by Storm Craft – Dusty Milly) – Known for his ruggedness but disappointed on last (July 5) when he finished fifth behind the engaging leader of the three-year-olds Wow Wow. The task of winning here is doubtful.
3 – ROJORN DI PILOT: (4. b. c by Liquidity – I’m Magic) – Simply put cannot manage these.
4 – CONTRACTOR: (5. ch. g by Blue Pepsi Lodge – Princess Terri) Contractor has no chance of winning.
5 – WILL IN CHARGE: (7. ch. h by Adore The Gold – Gem Lea) – Good to see this talented thoroughbred racing again. His trainer has waited and has shown great patience in moulding Will In Charge back to the stage where he can compete. Racing at the Overnight level means that Will In Charge is way below his usual class. If Will In Charge is anywhere near proper fitness, then he will romp this one without a murmur. Yet it is a wait and see game for this seven-year-old.
6 – NUCLEAR THUNDER: (5. ch. g by Nuclear Wayne – Royal Beauty) – Just making up numbers.
7 – PRINCESS ANNIE: (4. b. f by Northern Giant – Millenium Princess) – Racing a lot of late without a glimmer of form, and that trend should continue on Independence Day.
8 – MASTER OF HALL: (5. b. g by Emperor Hall – Noassemblyrequired) – After a long break returned to racing on July 18 and showed up for a long way before faltering in the last furlong. With that engagement under his girth, Master of Hall should be in better nick, but dealing with Race Car, Will In Charge, and Sentient is going to prove difficult.
9 – SENTIENT: (4. ch. c by Strikewhileitshot – Lady Geetadeo) – Seems to dislike winning. Sentient has been prominent in all of his recent races but always falls short when it matters most. Gets another chance and now with Robert Halledeen in the saddle, Sentient is assured of a powerful ride. It might be now or never for Sentient.
