KINGSTON, Jamaica – Quickgallop.com reviews the progress or lack thereof of the 16 starters in the 2022 Mouttet Mile.

This report is organised by finishing order.

FIRST: Excessive Force – Despite early fitness problems and difficulty navigating turns, this foreigner produced a stunning run to win the inaugural Mouttet Mile. However, Excessive Force's fortunes have declined since then, changing stables and underperforming. His future remains uncertain.

SECOND: Duke – A surprise runner-up at 73-1 odds under Allen ‘Bongo John’ Maragh's guidance, Duke has lost much of his vigour as he aged and now struggles even in Overnight Allowance races. He enters the 2023 Mouttet Mile with slim hope.

THIRD: Jordon Reign’s – This foreign contender has faced health issues and failed to make any significant showing since his third-place finish.

FOURTH: Mahogany – A strong contender who consistently proves his class by staying within the top three, Mahogany returns for another shot at the Mouttet Mile title.

FIFTH: Calculus – Sadly, Calculus has passed away.

SIXTH: She’s My Destiny – After an underwhelming 2022 result, this mare rebounded in 2023 with five wins from nine starts.

SEVENTH: Race Car – Has shown no progress since this race.

EIGHTH: Blue Vinyl – While winning four of his seven races in 2023 after a solid three-year-old campaign, Blue Vinyl has yet to defeat the best competitors.

NINTH: Atomica – The Derby winner disappointed in 2022 but made a strong comeback with five wins from six starts in 2023. Highly favored for the upcoming Mouttet Mile.

TENTH: I’ve Got Magic – This foreign horse failed to progress, regressing to score only three wins from eight starts. Will now race in Grade Two in the Bruceontheloose Sprint, skipping the Mouttet Mile.

ELEVENTH: Oneofakind – Has vanished from the scene.

TWELFTH: Eagle One – Remains active but with little success.

THIRTEENTH: King Arthur – The former Derby winner has not impressed since his unremarkable finish.

FOURTEENTH: Runaway Algo – Had a successful 2023 season with five victories from nine starts but hasn't consistently shown top-class performance.

FIFTEENTH: I Am Fred – Following a dismal 2022 outing, I Am Fred revived his career, winning four of his eight races in 2023.

SIXTEENTH: Make Up Artist – Retired to the breeding shed.
