Seven fillies and mares will contest the second staging of the $1.5-million St Elizabeth Distaff on tomorrow’s Jamaica Day programme. The three-year-old and upwards Open Allowance/Graded Stakes contest has eight starters going a mile (1,600m).

The three leading contenders in the St Elizabeth, Makeupartist, Lure of Lucy, and She’s My Destiny are all trained by Jason DaCosta.

Below is the analysis of each runner.

  1. SHE’S MY DESTINY: (4 ch f by Bern Identity – Woman Is Boss) – Won over this distance on August 13 in a time 1:40.4. She’s My Destiny weakened at seven furlongs on October 22 making a mile more testing. However, in that October 22 event, She’s My Destiny was pitted against the best horses available, while tomorrow her rivals are of lesser stock. Plus, She’s My Destiny has been looking good at exercise.
  1. ARTESIA: (4 gr f by Sensational Slam – Runaway Julie) – Cannot be considered for a winning run.
  1. MAKEUPARTIST: (5 b m by Adore The Gold – Lipstick Lily) – Won this race last year when beating Bestdaughterver by 4 ¼ lengths in a stakes record time of 1:38.4. Although sparingly raced this season, MakeupArtist Up Artist should report in good nick to defend her crown and is expected to go gate to wire. Seems to have been primed by her trainer for this race.
  1. BESTDAUGHTEREVER (USA): (5 gr m He’s Had Enough – Family First) – Not at her best this year, but has shown in the past that she will relish a mile. A placing on the board is the best offering for Bestdaughterever.
  1. ALEXA’S DREAM: (4 ch f by Berlino di Tiger – Alexa’s Song) – This filly is as fit as can be as she goes in search of winning three in a row. Alexa’s Dream races her toughest test to date and will do herself proud.
  1. LURE OF LUCY (USA): (4 b f by Uncle Lino – Ring of Faith) – Finished 11 lengths fourth to stablemate Makeupartist in this race last year. Lure of Lucy usually comes up against the better horses around, so going down the ladder will help her winning chances. In addition, Lure of Lucy has been showing glimpses of form in the mornings.
  1. SWEET MAJESTY: (4 b f by Soul Warrior – Bitter End) – Sweet Majesty is going to be left behind.
