KINGSTON, Jamaica – Nuclear Flight whose racing career was interrupted during the eighth race on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 in an Open Allowance – three-year-old and up sprint – over five and a half furlongs is to be retired to stud.
Nuclear Flight, a dark brown filly flew from the number one post position in the mentioned race and was easily in front under the guidance of jockey Dane Dawkins.
In the straight, Nuclear Flight moved away from rivals and was on course for at a minimum, a four-length victory when the Nuclear Wayne – City Flight offspring apparently took a bad step, forcing Dawkins to bring the filly to a halt.
“I can now confirm that Nuclear Flight broke the two sesamoid bones in her left foot and will be retired to stud.
“Right now, it is a critical waiting game as Nuclear Flight has to mend from her injury before she can actually enter stud. That is going to take several months and for sure, we are not going to rush her at this time. We will wait until she is fit and ready for the continuation of her career as a brood mare,” owner Michael Bernard shared with Quickgallop.com.
Nuclear Flight raced for about a year during which time she had 12 outings,  with a record of six wins, three second place finishes with two third place finishes and she was out of the frame only once – which was when she picked-up her injury.
Nuclear Flight earned just over $3.9 million.
