New Year’s Day double for trainer Gary Subratie as Crimson takes the fifth

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Trainer signalled his intentions early in the season after becoming the first conditioner to land a double in 2020, after his charge Crimson won the fifth race of eight on the New Year’s Day card now taking place at Caymanas Park.

Ridden by Anthony Thomas, Crimson, a half-brother to top two-year-old Wow Wow, ran way behind the leaders Harry’s Train (Dane Dawkins – 9-1) and Miss Formality – Jerome Innis – 9-1) in the Overnight Allowance event run over nine furlongs and 25 yards.

Thomas made his move leaving the three-furlong marker and really got going with a furlong to go on to win by 1 ¾ lengths over old-timer Hover Craft (Phillip Parchment – 7-2) with Dysfunctional (Roger Hewitt -9-2) third.

The winning time was 1:56.0.
