KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Friday race meet, dubbed the “Sprint Fest” with no race of the 10 on the card longer than five furlongs, got underway with Sharp Skirt taking the first run over four furlongs straight.

Sharp Skirt ridden by Ruja Lahoe and trained by veteran Joseph Thomas won a $250,000 - $200,000 claiming event for three-year-olds and upwards.

When the gates opened, horse number 13 Miss Awesome lost her rider apprentice Romario Smith while the others settled to the task of trying to win.

Sharp Skirt on the outside was in front when the horses hit the main track and from there was never in danger of losing at attractive 3-1 odds.

Second went to Jon Marshall (Phillip Parchment – 31-1) with Painthistownred – Omar Walker – 7-2 third.

The 3-5 favourite Super Mal (Dane Nelson) was a no-show.
