Francia’s Pride comes good

Despite going off at odds of 10-1, trainer Fitzroy Glispie said that he was never in doubt of his bay mare Francia’s Pride winning the Monday Morning Overnight Allowance event at Caymanas Park on Saturday.

Since coming to the Overnight Allowance level, Francia’s Pride has not done much.

However, on last over 10 furlongs (2,000m) on September 26, Francia’s Pride showed that she was coming into her own when finishing in second place by three lengths behind Dontae in a time of 2:11.1.

Ridden by apprentice Reyan Lewis, Francia’s Pride, from the break was up on the front end and stayed there in the three-year-olds and upward event.

Francia’s Pride, who hugged the inside rails, turned for home just behind the leaders after Bruce Wayne (Raddesh Roman) picked up the lead and was looking strong.

Lewis produced his mount and Francia’s Pride rallied to win by half-length ahead of Supertroncis (Christopher Mamdeen) and Bruce Wayne. The final time for the nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) event in 1:56.0.

“It was a good performance by her (Francia’s Pride) to get the victory here. The win was never in doubt as Francia’s Pride has ability.

“After Francia’s Pride had beaten all with the exception of Dontae in her previous race in the Kenneth Mattis Memorial race in September I knew in this field she would run a very good race. I am happy with her as she is going in the right direction,” Glispie said.
