KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a three and four-year-old (non-winners of four) for local horses and a three-year-old (non-winners of three) for imported horses, foreigner Madelyn’s Sunshine will be seeking to win for the third time from as many starts.
Seven horses have been nominated to start in what is the second of ten races on the Caymanas Sunday card of June 18, 2022. The distance to be travelled is seven furlongs. Interestingly, four of the seven starters are trained by Jason DaCosta. The DaCosta runners are Morse Code, Outbidder, Madelyn’s Sunshine and Luksol.
THE QUICK GALLOPER’S assessment of the seven starters is presented below in draw order.
1 – Berning Red came out of top claiming to finish a close second (1 ½ lengths) behind Madelyn’s Sunshine at 6 ½ furlongs. On Sunday, Berning Red meets Madelyn’s Sunshine on even terms with the distance posing no issues.
2 – Morse Code is filling space for more accomplished stablemates.
3 – Hijo Primero has no possibility of winning.
– Emperorofthecats ran well to finish third in the one-mile 2000 Guineas, 11 lengths behind winner Blue Vinyl and Brinks. This Sunday run can be seen as a trial for Emperorofthecats possible participation in the 10-furlong Jamaica St Leger on July 2. This bay gelding will relish the reduction of a furlong in the trip and has a fair chance of registering his third career win. Note, Emperorofthecats races with the tongue tie off.
5 – Outbidder missed the 1000 Guineas with this event providing an opportunity to assess her progress, especially in the upcoming Classics. Outbidder has been painstakingly prepared by her conditioner and her effort will be watched closely. Note, Outbidder races with the blinkers on.
6 – Madelyn’s Sunshine enters this contest with a perfect two from two record. This US-bred filly races over her longest trip to date, yet this should not be a hindrance as Madelyn’s Sunshine looked comfortable at 6 ½ furlongs during her second win 29 days ago.
7 – Luksol is a workmanlike sort who will hit the board.
