KINGSTON, Jamaica – THE PORTMORE race day with 11 races on tap got off to a mild start for punters with a win by 3-1 choice Four Thousand trained by Patrick Fong with Oshane Nugent in the saddle.
Four Thousand scored his second win from 60 starts in a five-year-old and upwards Claimer ($180,000 - $150,000) travelling 3 ½ furlongs.
The race was held up for several minutes as shoe repairs were done to the eventual 3-5 favourite Papa Albert (Reyan Lewis)), and when the starter was finally able to press his button, Four Thousand racing on the outside went into the lead and was never in danger of losing.
Challenges to the supremacy of Four Thousand did emerge in the form of Papa Albert and Riddim Up (Anthony Thomas), but to no avail as Four Thousand went on to win by 1 ½ lengths.
Papa Albert was second and Riddim Up third. For jockey Nugent, it was his third win this year from 59 rides.
