The fifth event on Saturday, October 11, 2025, will be run to the infectious rhythm of the Reggae Rocksteady.

This five-furlong straight dash is open to locally bred three- and four-year-olds who have not won more than three races, and to foreign-bred three- and four-year-olds who have not won more than two.

Eight horses have been nominated, each bringing a unique blend of form, potential, and circumstance.

Below is The Quick Galloper’s assessment of the contenders.

ONE – BROMPTON BOY

Brompton Boy steps into non-three company for the first time, having earned his second career win just 13 days ago. While his recent form is encouraging, the number one draw over the straight course is a known disadvantage, likely to hinder his chances.

TWO – BOWMORE

This foreign-bred runner possesses natural speed, but the calibre of competition in this field may prove too demanding. Bowmore will need a career-best effort to make an impact.

THREE – MISS MONEYPENNY

Miss MoneyPenny burst onto the scene as a two-year-old with two early wins, but her progress stalled—likely due to injury. After several attempts, she returned to winning ways 14 days ago, showing grit over six furlongs. With three career wins, she enters as the most accomplished in the line-up and must be taken seriously.

FOUR – UNRULY MO Unruly Mo has not raced in 71 days but left the track in solid form, with a win and a second-place finish in his last two outings. Though he’s been active in morning workouts, his last straight-course effort came on March 1. He may need this run to regain sharpness, but his class warrants respect.

FIVE – RICORICORICO

Ricoricorico was withdrawn from a scheduled start on May 24 due to injury. Recently, he’s been consistently seen at morning exercise, clocking decent times. The 161-day layoff is a concern, but if he returns anywhere near his best, he could be a major threat. The booking of the leading apprentice, who claims two kilogrammes, is a tactical boost.

SIX – STRONG MIND

Strong Mind rebounded from a disappointing Classic campaign with a narrow win, but was subsequently soundly beaten by Miss MoneyPenny over six furlongs. Notably, the weight shift sees Strong Mind going from 116 to 119 pounds, while Miss MoneyPenny moves from 119 to 120. That swing favours Strong Mind, though the margin of defeat, when the margin of defeat was 7 ¼ lengths. .

SEVEN – PERFECT AFFAIR

Perfect Affair has already tasted success over the straight course, which is a plus. However, the competition in this race is notably stiffer, and she may find herself outpaced. A watching brief is advised.

EIGHT – WAYNE’SCHERRYLINKS

This filly is still adjusting to the demands of non-three competition. While she shows promise, Saturday’s assignment appears beyond her current capabilities.

THE QUICK GALLOPER’S VERDICT

Miss MoneyPenny stands out as the class act, with three wins and a recent display of tenacity. Ricoricorico, if fit, could pose the biggest threat, especially with the apprentice claim. Strong Mind and Unruly Mo are capable of delivering strong performances, but both have questions to answer. The race promises a lively sprint, but the edge goes to Ricoricorico.
