A win for owner/trainer Gary Griffiths

KINGSTON, Jamaica – After dominance by the favoured horses in the first four races on the Caymanas Saturday (Jan 15) card, it was time for a  change, and that was achieved via the Gary Griffiths owned and trained Broken Light.

Broken Light ridden by Hakeem Pottinger won a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claimer ($550,000 - $500,000) travelling five furlongs round at odds of 12-1.

From the starter pressed his button, Pottinger brought Broken Light from the outside draw in the field of eight runners to the lead but was quickly challenged by Wifey Sez So (Javaniel Patterson), who was slowly out.

Broken Light and Wifey Sez So entered the lane close to each other with the former on the inside. The battle between the two continued apace until nearing the winning post Broken Light was able to make a final surge winning by 1 ½ lengths.

Wifey Sez So was second with Glock (Chris Mamdeen) the 3-5 favourite third.
