KINGSTON, Jamaica – King Arthur benefitting from a superb and judicious ride from jockey Anthony Thomas won the Caymanas Saturday eighth which was an Open Allowance affair for the King’s Plate run over 7 ½ furlongs. The King's Plate is named after former Derby winner and top class campaigner, A King Is Born. Trained by Jason DaCosta, jockey Thomas bided his time well when sent on their way by the starter. King Arthur raced fluently behind stable companion Eagle One (Dick Cardenas) and Awesome Treasure (Dane Dawkins), as the last two set the early fractions. Nipster (Robert Halledeen) at this stage in the contest was fourth.

With 3 ½ furlongs to go, Thomas pushed through King Arthur making sure he stuck to the inner rails as Nipster made his move also using the inside rails.

In the stretch, Thomas quickly placed King Arthur closer to the inside rails as Nipster and Halledeen were forced to go wide in order to challenge. King Arthur was still going strong in the closing stages and Nipster could not get by.

Nipster was second and Crimson (Tevin Foster) third. The winning time was 1:32.0.

King Arthur was the second winner on the day for Thomas.
