Any Number Can Play In Wayne DaCosta’s Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes

DACOSTA TWO YEAR OLD

The premier juvenile contest on the local calendar, the Wayne DaCosta Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, will be staged on Boxing Day, December 26, 2025.

Twelve promising juveniles are set to face the starter in this one-mile test, which will determine the champion locally bred two-year-old of the season.

THE QUICK GALLOPER’S ASSESSMENT

1 – SALUTE THE DON

Winner of the first juvenile race of the season on August 2 over three furlongs. Returned on November 29 to finish a distant second behind the imported Sir Don. This chestnut colt has trained well since and should relish the mile trip. Commands respect.

2 – MIDNIGHT TRAVELLER

Has three starts with a single win at five furlongs round. When matched against Sir Don, Midnight Traveller was well beaten, even by local rivals such as Salute The Don and Fernando. Despite racing with a tongue tie, his chances appear slim.

3 – LONDON SPIRIT

Consistent in two outings but yet to secure a victory. Difficult to envision a maiden breaking through in this high-profile event.

4 – WE JAMMIN

Scored a notable debut win just 13 days ago over seven furlongs – the longest winning distance among the entrants. Now equipped with first-time Lasix, which should further aid his effort. We Jammin looks a genuine contender and is expected to play a major role in the finish.

5 – TIA MARIA

Among the most seasoned of the group with four career starts. Captured her last race over six furlongs, suggesting stamina for the mile. Experience is an asset, but she must improve further to claim victory here.

6 – GOD’S PLAN

Won on debut September 13, but was soundly beaten in subsequent encounters with Sir Don. Remains an unknown quantity and could surprise if he progresses. Worth monitoring.

7 – FERNANDO

Debut winner at four furlongs, then finished a distant third behind Sir Don over seven furlongs. His true ability is hard to gauge, though his recent training suggests readiness for the mile. A dark horse in the line-up.

8 – SENOR BISCOTTI

Ran a close second to We Jammin over seven furlongs in a driving finish. Previously finished behind rivals such as God’s Plan, Midnight Traveller, and Tia Maria, but appears to be improving at the right time. Blinkers are added, which could sharpen his performance. A live contender.

9 – BIGGER BOSS

Runner-up on debut behind Tia Maria over six furlongs. Declared a late non-starter on December 13 after refusing to load. With first-time Lasix, he remains unpredictable but capable of springing a surprise.

10 – PROSPERITY SEN

Has shown little in two starts to suggest competitiveness at this level. First-time Lasix is applied, but prospects remain bleak.

11 – DARWIN

Secured victory in his second start over 5 ½ furlongs. Well-prepared for this assignment, and now races with both a tongue tie and first-time Lasix. Must be given serious consideration.

12 – FIDELITY

Bolted when scheduled to race on November 29. Previously displayed ability when winning over 4 ½ furlongs on October 25. With figure eight fitted and first-time Lasix, Fidelity is unpredictable but dangerous. A solid option for exotic wagers.

THE QUICK GALLOPER’S VERDICT

This year’s Wayne DaCosta Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes promises a competitive clash among the juveniles. We Jammin stands out as the most progressive, with his seven-furlong debut win marking him as a prime candidate for success over the mile. Senor Biscotti is improving rapidly and could turn the tables with blinkers applied, while Darwin looks well-prepared and should not be underestimated. Salute The Don brings class and consistency, and Fidelity is the wild card for exotic bettors.
