In Caymanas Saturday (April 2) seventh
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Win number two for popular jockey Trevor ‘Slicer’ Simpson after his return from overseas riding engagements was achieved atop the Michael Marlowe trained Salute The Deputy in the Caymanas Saturday (April 2) seventh.
Racing in a three-year-old maiden special weight contest going a mile, Salute The Deputy by Deputy Glitters out of No Pain No Gain was settled in third place as Secret Emperor (Bebeto Harvey) and the 1-5 favourite El Cid (Shane Ellis), both coming from the outside, vying for the lead.
After two furlongs were completed, Simpson was taken to the front by Salute The Deputy but that did not last for long as El Cid and Secret Emperor quickly went by. The latter two entered the lane close to each other with Simpson holding Salute The Deputy still in third place.
Then over the final furlong, ‘Slicer’ fanning repeatedly got Salute The Deputy into his groove and he went by El Cid to win by three parts of a length. Third was Asurety (Robert Halledeen).
Salute the Deputy won at odds of 18-1.
