Abbi Able strikes a winning beat on Drummer Boy at 13-1, double for Wayne DaCosta in Caymanas eighth

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Apprentice Abigail Able brought Drummer Boy with a scorching run to beat all and sundry in the eighth race at Caymanas Park moments ago.

Drummer Boy trained by Wayne DaCosta was successful in a non-restricted Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upwards run over five furlongs straight. The race was competed for in honour of the late G A “Sarge” Bucknor.

The nine runners in the field were all smartly out of the gates the leaders Rojorn di Pilot (Anthony Thomas) and Peking Cruz (Omar Walker settled in front in the middle of the track.

At this stage Ras Emanuel (Roger Hewitt) coming from the one draw decided to cling to the inside rails.

With a furlong to go, Able got Drummer Boy running at odds of 13-1 to accelerate and in doing so went by rivals to win by a comfortable 1 ½ lengths.

Rojorn di Pilot was second and Ras Emanuel third.

This was the third career win for Able whose two other winners England’s Rose and Rojorn di Pilot are also trained by DaCosta.

Drummer Boy was DaCosta’s second winner on the day.
