KINGSTON, Jamaica – Six-time champion jockey Omar ‘Champo’ Walker reasserted his prowess in the saddle, which has brought him those championship honours with a spanking triple on the 1000 Guineas race day of Saturday, June 4, 2022.
Walker, who recently rode his 1,200th winner at Caymanas Park emerged as the leading rider on the day. He started on his triple trek in the third race with a well-timed ride on the Ryan Darby trained Fearless Vibe.
He then reignited his association with longtime friend, the oldster Superluminal. Superluminal has a strong link with  “Champo”, as his best performances have come under Walker’s guidance. Walker put Superluminal in front, with Tomohawk throwing down a persistent in the straight. Walker was able to fend off Tomohawk for his second victory.
When Walker won most of his six titles, he was a fixture in the Wayne DaCosta stables. The two parted company and since then Walker has become a freelancer.
Now Walker is getting more and more rides from Jason DaCosta, the current leading trainer. The two paired to close 1000 Guineas Day with Sir John. This was the easiest of Walker’s three winners, as from the gates opened Sir John went in front and was never challenged.
