KINGSTON, Jamaica - Jockey Dane “Warrior Chief” Nelson was once again the toast at the Century Mile racetrack in Edmonton, Canada, winning four races on the 10-race programme on Saturday, June 4, 2022.
Nelson, after failing to find a winner the day before, got his first winner aboard the James Brown-conditioned Convince, who won a claiming race over 6 ½ furlongs by half-a-length.
Nelson’s second winner came aboard Pump the Brakes in a maiden claiming event at 5 ½ furlongs for trainer Lionel Joseph. Pump the Brakes vied for the early lead before opening up on rivals at the top of the drive, winning going away by 5 lengths in a time of 1:04.81.
Wheelsupinthirty, trained by Seymour Biggs, gave Nelson his third winner after romping home in a claiming race over six furlongs.
The cap for Nelson came in the feature Allowance contest going six furlongs where he won aboard Slaats by a neck in a driving finish to the wire.
“I am just happy that I could deliver and will continue to do so. As long as I am getting the rides, you will see the results,” Nelson said.
With those winners, Nelson moved his tally to 14 from 57 mounts, three wins behind Enrique Gonzalez (17 winners) in the jockey’s standing. The race meeting which started on April 30 ends on November 5.
