Owner Peter Brant told the Daily Racing Form he has moved “approximately 75 percent” of his horses out of trainer Chad Brown’s stable, sending them to trainers Bill Mott, Riley Mott, and Miguel Clement.
Among the moved horses is last year’s Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner Gezora. Trained by Francis Henri-Graffard for her triumph at Del Mar and a win in the Group 1 Prix de Diane, the 2022 daughter of Almanzor was transferred to Brown after the World Championships. She made her 2026 debut in the G3 Modesty Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 1, but came up 1 1/4 lengths short to another Brown trainee, Kathynmarissa (owned by Michael Caruso and Michael Dubb).
Brant was reportedly frustrated that Gezora had to carry five more pounds, 123, than all the other horses in the field, who carried 118.
“I don’t want to take a horse that’s won great classic races around the world, including the Breeders’ Cup, and then start picking spots where I’m spotting weight to very competitive horses in their first start of the year,” Brant told DRF. “Chad knows very well how I feel about the weight, and it’s not that important to him. He doesn’t really believe it affects horses that much, and I do.”
Brown and Brant have won 26 Grade 1 races together since the owner returned to racing in 2016, and Brant plans to keep several horses in Brown’s stable, including horses he owns solely and some he owns in partnership with Coolmore.
