Fernando Given The Edge In Rimsky Trophy

prestigious Benson and Hedges Gold Cup.

The Rimsky Trophy is restricted to locally bred three-year-olds who have not yet won two races and also on maiden three-year-old foreigners, offering an early glimpse into potential Classic contenders. Nine runners are entered to contest the six-furlong event.

1 – FIDELITY

Bay gelding (March 28) by Bern Identity out of Hush My Darling. Trainer: Jason DaCosta | Jockey: Anthony Allen.

A spirited type who disappointed badly in the one-mile Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes last Boxing Day, failing to show any spark. Fidelity’s temperament at the gates has been an issue, but if he settles early, improvement is possible. Still, he must prove he belongs at this level.

2 – COMUNA TRECE

Bay colt (USA May 28) by Maximum Security out of My Anguilla. Trainer: Oral Hayden | Jockey: Reyan Lewis – races with the figure 8 on.

One of two maidens in the line-up, Comuna Trece has been consistent without winning, hitting the board in six previous starts. While victory has eluded him, his steady efforts suggest he could sneak into the minor placings. A useful option for exotic wagers.

3 – VICTORIOUS LINKS

Grey filly (May 8) by Western Warrior out of Victory Turn. Trainer: Lawrence Freemantle | Jockey: Javaniel Patterson

Showed courage when winning over 5 ½ furlongs, fending off Mo Pai in a determined finish. Victorious Links has natural speed and will likely be among the frontrunners. However, with more pace expected in this six-furlong contest, her rider must judge the fractions carefully to preserve stamina.

4 – TAYLOR MADE

Grey filly (April 14) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Another Fury. Trainer: Jason DaCosta | Jockey: Jerome Innis

Made a sparkling debut on December 21, sprinting clear over five furlongs round. Yet, she noticeably weakened late, nearly caught by Giving Thanks, who has since franked the form with a runaway victory. Taylor Made has been working well in the mornings and should progress naturally. With her raw speed, she is a strong contender, though tactical riding will be key.

5 – MOHANLAL

Bay colt (April 7) by Casual Trick out of Raise Your Voice. Trainer: Richard Azan | Jockey: Tajay Suckoo

Scored impressively on December 20, 2025, and is the only runner proven beyond 5 ½ furlongs. Mohanlal showed versatility by leading comfortably yet also displaying the ability to stalk and finish. His stamina edge and adaptability make him a major player in this contest.

6 – FERNANDO

Chestnut colt (February 17) by Successful Native out of Dancing Queen. Trainer: Anthony Nunes | Jockey: Raddesh Roman

Ran a creditable third in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes at a mile, racing prominently before fading late. That effort suggests Fernando has the class and pace to handle six furlongs effectively. With his proven ability against stronger opposition, he commands respect here.

7 – ANY MEANS

Grey colt (USA March 4) by Leofric out of Necessary. Trainer: Michael Marlowe | Jockey: Shane Ellis – races with first-time Lasix.

Finished a distant 18 lengths behind Phenomenal One on December 13, 2025. While Any Means has been progressing steadily at exercise, he remains a work in progress. The Lasix addition may help, but he looks short of the required quality at this stage.

8 – UNCLE NALLY

Bay colt (May 27) by Successful Native out of Kit De Luca. Trainer: Robert Pearson | Jockey: Tevin Foster – races with first-time Lasix.

Won smartly over four furlongs on December 14, defeating Mohanlal, who later broke his maiden. On his lone six-furlong attempt, Uncle Nally showed early speed but weakened late against Tia Maria and Bigger Boss, the latter going on to win as a three-year-old. His steady improvement in training makes him worth watching closely.

9 – MIDNIGHT TRAVELLER

Chestnut filly (February 13) by Aveenu Malcainu out of Esperanza. Trainer: Jason DaCosta | Jockey: Shaheem Gordon – races with tongue tie off.

Won second time out over five furlongs round but has disappointed in her last two starts. Midnight Traveller has not shown the progression needed to compete with these rivals and looks outclassed.

THE QUICK GALLOPER’S VERDICT

The Rimsky Trophy promises a lively contest with several speedsters in the mix. Taylor Made and Victorious Links will ensure a fast early pace, while Mohanlal and Fernando appear best suited to stalk and strike late. Uncle Nally is improving and has a good chance if he sustains his speed. In the end, Fernando’s proven class and Mohanlal’s stamina edge make them the leading candidates, with Taylor Made a danger if she develops further.
