For Michael Marlowe, the journey at Caymanas Park has been one of steady progression and inherited pedigree. On January 3, 2026, the second-generation trainer secured a defining career moment: his 100th winner.

The milestone victory arrived via Rock-Ola in a 6 ½ furlong (1,300m) Restricted Allowance V contest. In a thrilling finish that showcased the depth of Marlowe’s barn, Rock-Ola, piloted by apprentice Dane McKenzie, secured victory by a mere nose in a time of 1:24.3. Fittingly, the runner-up was another Marlowe charge, Captain Fantastic, ridden by Phillip Parchment.

Reflecting on the achievement, Marlowe did not hide his sense of accomplishment.

"It took a while to get it but it finally came," Marlowe said. "We are enjoying it, I am happy for it, and now we don’t have anything over our heads so we could start rolling on and win some more races."

Since obtaining his license in 2016, Michael has effectively carried the torch passed down by his father, the former jockey and trainer Valbert Marlowe.

While the 100th win is his latest headline, Marlowe’s breakout season occurred in 2018. That year, he was recognized as the most-improved trainer, finishing seventh in the standings with over $15 million in earnings from 161 starts. His 2018 campaign included:

  • 14 Wins
  • 24 Second-place finishes
  • 26 Third-place finishes

That same year marked his arrival as a Classic winning trainer. He saddled Marquesas to victory in the Jamaica St Leger, a performance that contributed to the horse being voted the season’s best three-year-old.

Currently managing a stable of approximately 30 horses, Marlowe credits his longevity and recent success to a supportive network of owners who have stood by him through the inevitable fluctuations of the sport.

"There's a lot of joy behind this milestone. I mean, I got the right owners and I am grateful for everyone’s support. Mr Wright, Mr Heffes, and Basil Williams, just to name a few, I have got some nice guys with me."

With the pressure of the century mark now behind him, Marlowe is focused on revitalizing his stock and improving his strike rate for the remainder of the 2026 season.

"I should have won 100 races maybe a year or two ago but the last couple of years have been tough. Hopefully going forward we could get some fresher horses and do things better. We got about 30 horses now and I am expecting good things this year," Marlowe ended.
