KINGSTON, Jamaica -  “To say the least, Miniature Man as a four-year-old has had a lot of issues and several problems to deal with.
“It has been a long, slow, and tedious road to recovery as jockey Abigail Able worked with him steadily all along. She knows him well, and we took the decision and kept her on him for this race. She rode him really well, and got the job done in style. I was happy and satisfied by both horse and jockey,“ trainer Jason DaCosta said after the long-anticipated win by Miniature Man on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Caymanas Park.
Miniature Man, the winner of the Classic 2000 Guineas last year June earned his first win since then in an Overnight Allowance call going 6 1/2 furlongs.
It was a controlled effort by Able coming from the outside draw of the 14 horses that were entered to race.
She gently moved Miniature Man to get closer to the leader, stable companion Super Duper (Anthony Thomas). Miniature Man entered the straight in striking mode and quickly surged by rivals and still had enough to deal with the fast-finishing Unruly Boss (Javaniel Patterson), who eventually took second place from Super Duper. Miniature Man won by 1 1/2 lengths, in a time of 1:19.1, while recording splits of 23.1 x 46.3 x 1:12.3.
”This horse occupies a special place for me, as he is my first Classic winner in Jamaica. The team at the stables along with Abigail fought long and hard with him, and to see him perform so well today (Sunday) was heart-warming. It was a case of patience paying off for us.
“Obviously, we have to see how he comes out of the race before making any further plans as far as Miniature Man is concerned. He is now in Open Allowance, and whatever we do, it will be in his best interest,” DaCosta added.
