PAPA ALBERT GOES ONE BETTER
After finishing a length second to Fourthousand over the straight on May 7, Papa Albert returned in an easier spot and duly obliged in a five-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($180,000-$150,000) spread
Travelling 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m), the Shaun Williams trained Papa Albert was hustled by jockey Reyan Lewis from the outside draw to take up the running early. Papa Albert went into the half-mile turn ahead of The Nextbigting (Dick Cardenas) and Nasdaq Princess (Roger Hewitt).
In the stretch, Papa Albert came under pressure from The Nextbigting but Lewis kept his cool and brought home the nine-year-old chestnut gelding by three parts of a length in a time of 1:11.2. The Nextbigting was second and Powerful Red third.
BRUCE WAYNE TURNS AROUND FORM
Bruce Wayne, after failing to finish his last race on May 14, easily defeated rivals in a three-year-old and upwards Optional Claiming ($250,000-$200,000) event at 6 furlongs (1,200m).
Trained by Steven Todd and ridden by Aaron Chatrie, Bruce Wayne settled just behind the early pace in third, as Mr Lyndhurst (Anthony Thomas) and Buckaluck (Calvin Bailey) set the splits.
Leaving the four-furlong (800m) marker Bruce Wayne went in chase of Buckaluck who had taken over the lead from a fading Mr Lyndhurst. With a quick change of lead, Bruce Wayne surged to the front at the top of the lane and went on to win by 10 ½ lengths.
Mr Lyndhurst rallied for second place with Star Lee (Roger Hewitt) getting the third spot. The final time was recorded at 1:17.1.
ANOTHER BULLET FINALLY FIRES
Former top-grade campaigner Another Bullet, from the barn of Patrick Lynch returned to winning ways in a claiming ($750,000-$600,000) event for three-year-olds and upwards over one mile (1,600m).
With Dane Dawkins in the irons, the former sprint champion raced in fourth place behind Graydon (Roger Hewitt), Blood Fire (Anthony Thomas), and Uncle Vinnie (Robert Halledeen) leaving the intersection at the seven-furlong pole.
Entering the half-mile turn, Another Bullet joined Uncle Vinnie and Blood Fire, picking up the lead at the top of the bend, and then held his galloped well, winning by a length and three quarters in a time of 1:43.3. Blood Fire held for second with Blood Song (Jordan Barrett) third.
EQUIPMENT CHANGE AND PASS THE BOOZE IS A WINNER
Running with the figure-8 off, Pass The Booze, ridden by Chris Mamdeen, made one get up in a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) over 5 ½ furlongs.
Breaking from the number one post, Pass The Booze shot to the front ahead of Legal Opportunity (Omar Walker) and Thegoodlife (Anthony Thomas). The four-year-old chestnut colt straightened with the lead and increased that advantage, winning by by all of nine lengths.
Thegoodlife finished second and Legal Opportunity third. The final time was 1:09.1.
EIGHT HORSES CLAIMED
In the second race, Gregory Forsyth claimed Nasdaq Princess for owner Somora Clarke from Nicholas Smith for $180,000; David Powell claimed The Nextbigthing for owner Khamol Nichol from Gordon Lewis for $180,000, and Winchester McIntosh claimed winner Papa Albert for owner Richard Brown from Steven Todd.
In the third race, Lawrence Freemantle claimed Mr Lyndhurst for owner Clinton Rhoden from Jason DaCosta for $200,000; Errol Subratie claimed Smarty Tradition for himself from Rudolph Hardial for $250,000; Ryan Darby claimed Buckaluck for owner Raphael Gordon from David Powell for $250,000, and Henry Harrison Jr. claimed winner Bruce Wayne for himself for $2050,000,
Delroy Waugh claimed Blood Fire for owner Kyle Brown for $750,000 from the fourth race.
