KINGSTON, Jamaica – Form players in all wagers got off to a good start in the Caymanas Saturday (April 9) first, when Omron duly obliged as the 3-5 favourite.
The Caymanas Saturday first was a four-year-old and upwards maiden condition contest at 7 ½ furlongs.
Omron, trained and owned by Joseph Thomas with Dane Nelson in the saddle, followed the early leader Conundrum (Andre Powell) for the first 2 ½ furlongs.
Then Nelson decided to take the advantage and did so without any fuss. Once in the lead, it became a matter of how far Omron would win.
Omron won by 13 lengths from second place Tocatbetheglory (Richard Henry). Always Vigorous (Oneil Scott) finished third.
With this win, Nelson has now taken the lead by one over Dane Dawkins in the jockeys’ championship, while for Thomas it was his first in 2022.
Nelson is expected to leave the island next week for his riding engagements in Canada.
