Wins St Cecelia Cup with another command performance

KINGSTON, Jamaica – When the Horse of the Year was announced earlier this year many had doubts about the Anthony Nunes trained Further and Beyond’s receiving the nod from the voting group. Today (April 2), after the running of the 6 ½ furlong – Open Allowance – St Cecelia Cup, those doubts have been, once and for all, erased. Truth be told, they were obliterated!
Further and Beyond, drawn at one for his first effort this year, gave his backers a scare coming close to mishap in his starting stall with the starting gate crew attending quickly. When the starter did press the go button, Further and Beyond (Robert Halledeen) broke handily as his stablemate Go Deh Girl (Tevin Foster) drawn at two went for the lead, and in doing so, left enough space on the rails for Further and Beyond to find himself.
Go Deh Girl mixed it up on the front end with Eagle One (Phillip Parchment) and I’ve Got Magic (Trevor Simpson) with Further and Beyond lurking menacingly.
It was I’ve Got Magic who carried the field into the straight for the final two furlongs but by then Halledeen had taken Further and Beyond off the rails and was already head-to-head with I’ve Got Magic. Afterward, it was not a race as Further and Beyond in true Horse of the Year style, skittered away to win in a time of 1:19.3. I’ve Got Magic was second and Duke third after the disqualification of Dejae’s Boy.
Further and Beyond was Nunes's second winner on the 10-race card.

  1. It's not how the horse perform the last two months or the first month of the new year that matters it's what both horses perform over last year that should matter how consistent each runner performed
