Some of the readers’ responses are published below.
BOOGIE - Excellent gesture on the part of both jockeys.
OSSEL - When I saw the gesture on the replay, all I could say was “wow”.
UNCLE - Indeed indeed. Entertaining, we haven’t seen anything like that in quite a while it takes mental and physical skill to battle for 2 furlongs. Quality horses, jockeys, and training jobs.
DANAVAN - Race fans, I was indeed the first to comment on this iconic gesture by two stalwarts of present-day racing. The vanquished reaching out to the victor in an act of sportsmanship. I personally have never seen in over years of being a turfite at Caymanas Park. Now with this historic gesture in our memory, will owners be allowed to shake a jockey’s hand leading back to the saddling enclosure in a jubilant manner? Back in the ’70s a winner was disqualified for touching the jocks person before weighing in. The horse in question was the filly, Miss Lou.
JOHNNO – A gesture of much significance in troubled times. Bravo to the Canter Man and the Warrior Chief.
THE PLAYER – I could not have been more pleased when I saw the fist pump with Ellis and Nelson. Another significant moment in our racing history. Well done!
MARCUS – I was happy to see the loser acknowledging the winner. These are rare moments in any sport. We need, not only racing, more of this kind of action from our sportsmen and women.
JOHN – Well done to both, and thanks to QUICKGALLOP.COM for providing the information. I was not at the track nor was I watching races at the time, but after reading about it on this website, I watch the replay and saw the gesture. Thanks.
MARK - Very impressive on the part of both jockeys; really heart-warming to see that sportsmanship is alive and well in this very competitive sporting environment of local horse racing. Kudos all round!!!
