KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Port Royal Sprint, one of the three major races on Jamaica Day, is a Grade One | Open Allowance event for three-year-olds and up, covering six furlongs.

Jamaica Day 2023, is scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023.

As we continue to focus on Jamaica Day, let's revisit the 2022 Port Royal Sprint and examine the progress of the starters in finishing order.

Splits – 22.4 x 46.2

FIRST - Excessive Force: After succeeding in the 2022 Port Royal Sprint, he achieved his most celebrated victory three weeks later in the first running of the Mouttet Mile. Since then, Excessive Force has struggled due to persistent health issues. He recently changed stables to revive his career.

 

SECOND - Madelyn's Sunshine: Hindered by health problems, her race day appearances have been limited. She returned after a long break to win convincingly over six furlongs at the Overnight Allowance level on November 4th. Madelyn's Sunshine is preliminarily entered in this year's Port Royal Sprint.

THIRD - El Profesor: This surprise third-place finisher hasn't achieved much success since then.

FOURTH - Duke: Ran an impressive race at long odds to place second in the Mouttet Mile. Now aging, Duke struggles to rediscover his former form. Currently racing in Overnight Allowance and last won a race on May 7th this year.

FIFTH - Eagle One: Continues to persevere.

SIXTH - I've Got Magic: Started 2023 strongly but has since faded. Provisionally entered for this year's Port Royal Sprint.

SEVENTH - Race Car: Recently struggling to win at the Overnight Allowance level.

EIGHTH - Curlin's Affair: Has not developed as anticipated; recently changed stables after being claimed for $1 million.
