KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Quick Galloper asks the question – what progress has been made by the horses who participated in the 2021 Pick 3 Challenge Trophy?

There were nine starters in the 2022 Pick 3. The analysis is done in the order of finish.

FIRST: Brinks – did well in the three-year-old Classic races with a second-place finish in the 12-furlong Jamaica Derby in August. Brinks has easily gone through his conditions and is now in the Overnight Allowance class. With his placing in the Classics, and by virtue of completing his conditions, Brinks can be considered to be the third-ranking of this season’s three-year-old crop behind Atomica and Blue Vinyl.

SECOND: Tekapunt – has been hindered in his three-year-old campaign by injuries which had him out of Classic reckoning. He recently returned to competitive action and has been consistent as ever, eventually winning on November 12. Still has his conditions to go through by the end of 2022.

THIRD: Prncsshootingstar – holds the distinction of winning the first two-year-old race of 2021, but has not progressed since. Active at exercise and probably race soon.

FOURTH: Power – has been a disappointment thus far.

FIFTH: Perfect Brew – failed to find his best during the first half of his three-year-old career. Then when the better riders were given the piloting duties, Perfect Brew started to fulfil his potential. Will go through his conditions and reach Overnight Allowance, and probably beyond.

SIXTH: Deezi – Unfortunately Deezi moved on to greener pastures.

SEVENTH: Slammer has had a long stint away from competitive racing due to injury problems. After this long siege, Slammer recently returned and earned a win. Slammer is of ability and will go through his series.

EIGHTH: Golden Wattle – went on to earn significant victories as two, including the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes. With three wins at two, Golden Wattle was crowned as the champion two-year-old 2021. At three, Golden Wattle, bedogged by injuries, leading to a curtailment of her progress to this day.

NINTH: Fly Messenger Fly – is probably the three-year with the most starts under her belt with nothing much to show for her labour. Of late, Fly Messenger Fly has found some form but will have difficulties going through her conditions.
