Following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa, live racing returns to Caymanas Park on Saturday next, November 15, with the highly anticipated Jamaica Cup Raceday set for Sunday, November 16. Sunday’s card features three standout events:

  • The Jamaica Cup (Grade One, 9½ furlongs)

  • The Port Royal Sprint (Grade One, 6 furlongs)

  • The St Elizabeth Distaff (Overnight Allowance, 1 mile, fillies and mares 3 years and older)

As part of its continuing coverage, Quickgallopja.com revisits the nine contenders from the 2024 St Elizabeth Distaff, ranked by finishing position, and tracks their progress, or lack thereof, since that race.

FIRST – POWER FROM ABOVE

Jockey: Tevin Foster | Trainer: Anthony Nunes

On a rain-soaked track, Power From Above lingered at the rear before unleashing a devastating late surge down the wide outside. It was a career-defining performance. Unfortunately, her momentum stalled afterward, largely due to a lack of longer-distance races, her clear strength.

SECOND – SISTREN TREASURE

Jockey: Raddesh Roman | Trainer: Gary Subratie

This American-bred filly burst onto the local scene with consistent wins and placings. Her runner-up finish in the Distaff was promising, but her form has since deteriorated sharply. She remains active, though far from her early brilliance.

THIRD – BOOTYLICIOUS

Jockey: Reyan Lewis | Trainer: Peter-John Parsard

Bootylicious evolved into a top-tier sprinter, racking up wins in Open Allowance company and leading the pack in earnings. She has since retired in glory and now resides at Paradise At Spring Village Stud Farm.

4TH – BABYLIKE

Jockey: Paul Francis | Trainer: Philip Feanny

Babylike earned her way into Overnight Allowance with four wins from 33 starts. Her fourth-place finish in the Distaff was respectable, but her career plateaued soon after.

She now resides at the breeding shed.

5TH – ALL FOR LOVE

Jockey: Javaniel Patterson | Trainer: Gary Subratie

Entering the Distaff with solid credentials—four wins and nearly $5 million in earnings—All For Love failed to build on that foundation. Her form has remained stagnant since.

6TH – PROVOCATIVA

Jockey: Dick Cardenas | Trainer: Oral Hayden

This overseas-bred runner has stayed in the mix but has yet to make a meaningful impact. Her post-Distaff efforts have been largely forgettable.

7TH – GRECIAN LIGHT

Jockey: Shane Ellis | Trainer: Paul Swaby

Grecian Light met the entry conditions for the Distaff but failed to deliver on race day. She has since transitioned to stud duties, having been served by Successful Native.

8TH – SHE’S MY FRIEND

Jockey: Victor Sanchez | Trainer: Jason DaCosta

She’s My Friend entered the Distaff without meeting the Overnight Allowance criteria. Expectations were low, and the result matched. Her career remains unremarkable.

9TH – JOY IS GOLDEN

Jockey: Robert Halledeen | Trainer: Patrick Lynch

Joy Is Golden never recovered from her disappointing Distaff run. She was later sent to stud at Orange Valley Estates.

NOTE: Digital One was a late non-starter.
