The premier two-year-old event over the years remains the prestigious one-mile Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes.

The 2024 renewal attracted a compact field of six starters.

The Quick Galloper reviews their current status as of December 2025, highlighting progress, or lack thereof, since that defining race.

FIRST – BURNING HEDGE

Burning Hedge stamped herself as the standout of her juvenile generation with victory in the Two-Year-Old Stakes. She later added Classic glory by winning the fillies-only 1000 Guineas, her sole success at three. A third-place finish in the Jamaica St Leger and a narrow defeat in the Jamaica Derby further cemented her reputation among peers. However, she has struggled when facing older rivals outside of age-restricted company.

SECOND – LOVISA

Lovisa’s career was hampered by persistent health issues. She has since been retired from racing.

THIRD – STRONG MIND

Strong Mind, third in the Two-Year-Old Stakes, failed to deliver in the three-year-old Classics. He rallied late in his three-year-old season but remains below expectations. As a four-year-old, he will complete his conditions and advance to the Overnight Allowance class, where success will be hard to come by.

FOURTH – HAZELNUT

Hazelnut endured a testing 2025 campaign, managing just one win from six starts. Currently competing in the non-winners of three category, Hazelnut faces an uphill battle as she transitions into his four-year-old season.

FIFTH – DANKA

Danka raced ten times in 2025, securing two victories and earnings just over $2 million. Now in the non-winners of four grouping, her most recent win came on December 13. She is expected to notch another success at this level to reach Overnight Allowance, though progress beyond that will be challenging.

SIXTH – MR LEE

Mr Lee required six starts in 2025 to secure his second career win. While not a standout, he is capable of adding more victories over time with steady campaigning.

CONCLUSION

The 2024 Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes produced a mixed bag of outcomes for its six participants. Burning Hedge remains the standout, her Classic triumph ensuring she will be remembered as the best of her crop, even if her progress has slowed against older rivals. Lovisa’s career was cut short by health issues, while Strong Mind and Hazelnut have struggled to live up to early promise. Danka has shown consistency with modest success, edging closer to tougher company, and Mr Lee continues to grind out wins with patience and persistence.
