Whenever the Prince Consort and Thornbird Stakes roll around, punters know the first three-year-old Classics are just about to take centre stage.
The Thornbird Stakes is contested by three-year-old fillies over seven furlongs, with the 2026 renewal set for Saturday, April 11.
Here’s an update from The Quick Galloper on the current status of the seven runners from the 2025 Thornbird listed in finishing order:
FIRST – HANSA
After her courageous runner-up finish in the ten-furlong Jamaica St Leger on Sunday, July 6, 2025, it was revealed that the brave bay filly sustained a career-ending injury during the race.
SECOND – SOCIAL AVIATOR
Social Aviator showcased her quality by winning The Portmore following her second-place effort in the Thornbird. Unfortunately, injuries later forced her into early retirement from racing.
THIRD – DANKA
This was one of Danka’s stronger performances. Since the Thornbird, she has remained consistent within her class grouping, though she has yet to complete her age group conditions.
FOURTH – BURNING HEDGE
The two-year-old champion at the time went on to finish second in The Portmore, captured the 1000 Guineas, and placed third in the St Leger. Burning Hedge then delivered a memorable Derby run, narrowly denied by the determination of I Dream Again. Since the Derby, Burning Hedge has struggled in Overnight Allowance and has raced in a long while.
FIFTH – LINGUIST
Following her eighth-place finish in The Portmore, Linguist improved with a solid second in the 1000 Guineas. She then etched her name among Classic winners by taking the 10-furlong Jamaica Oaks. Since her August Oaks triumph, Linguist has been campaigning steadily in Overnight Allowance company.
SIXTH – LADY BABITA
Lady Babita has since been retired to stud duties.
SEVENTH – SUMMER PALACE
Still lingering in competition, Summer Palace has yet to complete her age group conditions.
EIGHTH – MISS MONEYPENNY
After a lengthy wait, this sprinting filly finally completed her conditions to reach Overnight Allowance. Miss MoneyPenny recently made her debut at that level.
