Barrington “Wasp” Harvey, a well-known jockey in the horse racing world both locally and abroad, passed away yesterday at the age of 62.

Known for his consistency, skill, and deep passion for the sport, Harvey built a career racing primarily in North America. At Los Alamitos in California, he rode in over 1,100 races, capturing 129 wins—including memorable victories aboard Whisky My God and Perfect D.

Ferndale fans remember Harvey fondly for his back-to-back triumphs in the prestigious Humboldt County Marathon Handicap, winning in 2010 with Come Back Native and again in 2011 aboard Steel Blue.
