KINGSTON, Jamaica – Racing for the second time this year Versatile Vision was all pluck and grit when she held off all-comers to win the first of eight races on the Caymanas Sunday (March 7) race card.
Jockey Dane Nelson, the current leader in the standings, relaxed the 2-5 favourite Versatile Vision in third as Triple Seven (Jerome Innis) carried the field with splits of 23.1 x 47.1.
Nelson started his winning move in earnest on the outside when the horses were rounding the final bend before straightening up for the stretch drive.
Versatile Vision, the Anthony Nunes trainee did not waste any time in taking over but started to shorten with a furlong left as Miss Hillington (Anthony Thomas) and Roses for Elle (Paul Francis) emerged from the pack behind.
In a duel involving the three horses the strength of Nelson brought home Versatile Vision by a neck over Miss Hillington, who also had a neck to spare on Roses for Elle.
After winning on Versatile Vision it was announced that Nelson would not be riding for the rest of the day.
