KINGSTON, Jamaica - Thalita didn’t show a lot in her debut run on August 1, 2022, over three furlongs (600m) when finishing in third place by two lengths beaten by Legit Boss and Volatility in the 3-furlong Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC)/TOBA Juvenile Dash.
However, the two-year-old chestnut filly by Soul Warrior out of Luminous Trieste, trained by Jason DaCosta looked like a completely different horse when returning for competition in a native-bred two-year-old Maiden Special Weight contest, this time on the round course at five furlongs (1,000m) on Saturday, September 10, 2022.
“Well, it was an improved performance by Thalita and I am happy with how she behaved today (September 10, 2022) and how she ran. We noticed from her first race that she wasn’t a three-furlong horse and that she wants to little more distance, making the trip of five furlongs much more to her liking.
“She (Thalita) proved that today (Saturday, September 10) and I am happy with the run. I hope that she will continue to improve and do well in the big two-year-old races later in the season,” DaCosta told the Supreme Racing Guide.
With champion jockey Anthony Thomas riding for champion owner Carlton Watson, Thalita showed improved tactical speed after jumping straight to the lead at the start of the race named in honour of patrol judge Kirk Kong.
Thalita went into the half-mile (800m) turn comfortable on the front-end as stablemate She’s A Mirage (Abigail Able), Noisy Lady (Paul Francis) and Roulette Boss (Omar Walker) chased. Thalita turned for home with a clear advantage and kept up her work rate in deep stretch.
With only three cracks from the whip of Thomas to remind the far-striding filly that the race was not yet over, Thalita sprinted off to win by 7 ¾ lengths, stopping the clock in 1:00.2. Roulette Boss, running green, finished in second place with Noisy Lady finishing third.
