Triple Seven at 11-1 opens Derby/Oaks 11-race card

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The 11-race Derby/Oaks race day started with a mild upset, with Triple Seven winning at odds of 11-1.

That first race won by Triple Seven was a four-year-old and upwards (non-winners of two) contest going 5 ½ furlongs.

The pace was set by 8-5 chance Princess Kyra (Natalie Burger) followed by Triple Seven (Jerome Innis), while the rest of the field someway behind the first two.

Innis made a decisive move on Triple Seven rounding the final turn for home to enter the straight with the lead.

In the stretch Triple Seven trained by Steven Todd had no challengers winning by 4 ¼ lengths. Lady Bastipur (Roger Hewitt) was second and Anngelos (Paul Francis) third.
