KINGSTON, Jamaica – The three-year-old race on Saturday, January 21, 2023, has attracted eight starters, with three of the lot running for the first time. This contest is over 5 ½ furlongs.
The Quick Galloper’s assessment is provided below.
1 – SMOOTH AVIATOR is a bay colt (March 23) by Casual Trick out of Classy Aviator trained by Jason DaCosta with Reyan Lewis aboard. Coming along, as evidenced by his third-place finish behind Volatility and Whizz Kid on January 2. Whizz Kidd is present again, thereby reducing the winning chance of Smooth Aviator.
2 – AL AFORTUNADO is a bay colt (January 29) by Bern Identity out of Urgent Appeal trained by Norman Smith with Anthony Thomas aboard. This colt has one outing to date, ending in fourth, with Volatility, Whizz Kidd, and Smooth Aviator ahead. Will have to make significant improvement to win this one.
3 – RIDGE LINER is a bay colt (May 27) by Dreamliner out of Ma Grande trained by Dale Murphy with Andre Martin aboard. This first-time start has done nothing of major significance in the mornings to draw attention. 4 – WHIZZ KIDD is a bay colt (April 19) by Northern Giant out of Mayken Joy trained by Jason DaCosta with Robert Halledeen aboard. The most experienced of this lot with eight starts in his hoofs. He has been consistent in those efforts and is given the opportunity of getting off the mark.
5 – TRU IDENTITY is a bay filly (May 31) by Bern Identity out of Quiet Grandeur trained by Roya Matthews with Oshane Nugent aboard. Note, Tru Identity races with the blinkers on.
6 – DE LYE LA is a bay filly (February 25) by Bern Identity out of Along trained by Ian Parsard with Dane Dawkins in the saddle. Has spent a lot of time at the gates getting ready for her first assignment. Dye Lye La has done enough in the mornings to have a say in the outcome. 7 – TOKIILAMOCKINGBIRD is a bay colt (March 6) by Lion Tamer out of Newton’s First Law trained by Marlon Anderson with Abigail Able aboard. Still finding his way. Note, Tokillamockingbird races with the visor on and first-time Lasix.
8 – PHENOMENAL ONE is a chestnut colt (March 31) by Lion Tamer out of Darlin trained by Jason DaCosta with Phillip Parchment in the saddle. Has caught the eye at exercise and is ready to run on his debut. With no terrors entered Phenomenal One can get off the mark.
