Oshane Nugent and Anthony Thomas lead the way with the most rides on the day. Both have duties to perform in seven races.

They are followed by Dane Dawkins, Samantha Fletcher, and Linton Steadman with six mounts each. Dick Cardenas has five rides.

Of note in the up-to-date jockeys’ standings, the top 10 includes five former and present champions, Thomas, Dane Nelson, Dick Cardenas, Omar Walker, and Shane Ellis. Missing from the top 10 is former champion Chris Mamdeen.

Of note is that despite his long suspension Oshane Nugent occupies position number 6 with 25 wins.

THE TRAINERS

The big talk after the October 2 race day was the status of the trainers’ championship. Jason DaCosta in defying the odds is now within touching distance of leading and champion trainer Anthony Nunes.

After saddling the first two winners Unruly Boss and Tekapunt, and with all but one of his horses earning, DaCosta is hovering just about $75,000 adrift of Nunes in the race for championship honours. Gary Subratie now finds himself in the third slot.

Of note is the performance of trainer Ian Parsard – fourth in the championship. Parsard has 126 starts from which he has earned 30 wins for a win percentage of 24 per cent. What is even of greater interest is that Parsard from his 126 starts has a 50 per cent rate of finishing in the top three, which is the highest among the top 10 trainers.
