KINGSTON, Jamaica – Nine races are on the program for this Saturday, October 2, 2021, race day at Caymanas Park.
THE QUICK GALLOPER has gone through these nine races and now offers the evaluation.
1 – Since the recent departure of jockey Dane Nelson, who is now riding at Century Mile in Canada, most of the mounts these days are shared mainly by Dane Dawkins, Oshane Nugent, Dick Cardenas, and, of course, the co-champion and current leading rider Anthony Thomas.
Coming into the mix of late is Samantha Fletcher, who brought much-needed attention to the sport of racing when she rode a triple, the first female to do so in Jamaica on Wednesday (Sept 27, 2021).
On Saturday, Thomas has secured seven rides (races 1,2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9), Cardenas the same (races 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9), Dawkins six (races 1, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9), Nugent six (1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9), and Fletcher six (races 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9).
2 – On the side of the trainers Jason DaCosta leads the way with starters in six races (1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9). DaCosta is followed by Richard Azan and Patrick Lynch with starters in four races. Azan will saddle horses in races 2, 7, 8, 9, and Lynch in races 1, 6, 8, 9.
Of note is that champion trainer Anthony Nunes saddles horses in races 1, 6, 7.
3 – Another two-year-old contest is on tap, and THE QUICK GALLOPER decided to look at some of the dams of the runners involved in this race.
HIDDEN VALLEY - (2 ch f by Soul Warrior – Little Thunder) – Little Thunder has already produced Trini Magic, Dash of Class, Reggae Gone Grammy, and Let Him Fly.
PRINCESS ALANI - (2 b f by Bern Identity – Gentle Officer) – Gentle Giant had one progeny before, Berry Boy a winner on Monday (Sept 27, 2021).
SUNSET SILHOUTTE - (2 b f by Northern Giant – Ahwhofah) – Ahwhofah represents one of the better dam bloodlines in the country. Her babies include Make My Day, Ali Baba, Super Cop, She’s A Maneater, Without Exception, Run Thatcher Run, and England’s Rose.
TEKAPUNT - (2 b c by Northern Giant – Just A Flutter) – Just A Flutter has produced Sink The Bismarck, Stir It Up, Lottery Ticket, Yaya’s Dream, Time For A Kola, and Big Big Daddy.
4 – God of Love, a five-year-old, who races in the feature I’msatisfied Trophy and Powerful Red have the most wins of the 83 horses scheduled to run. Both have won 10 times, God of Love from 31 starts, and Powerful Red from a whopping 106 starts. Not surprisingly Powerful Red is the oldest horse on the program at 12 years.
