KINGSTON, Jamaica – Eight of the best juveniles are assembled to take part in the 2021 renewal of the one-mile Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, which will be run tomorrow, Monday, December 27, 2021.
THE QUICK GALLOPER explores the eight runners and their connections.
1 – There are two fillies among the eight runners in the 2021 Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes. They are Golden Wattle (Lion Tamer – Golden Glory) trained by Anthony Nunes; and Fly Messenger Fly (Northern Giant – Preach Preacher) trained by Jason DaCosta.
2 – Northern Giant is the dominant sire among the eighth runners, with four of his offspring in the race. The four are Deezi whose dam is Buyabook; Giant Wheeler whose dam is Khadiliah, Tekapunt whose dam is Just A Flutter, and Fly Messenger Fly, whose dam is Preach Preacher. Interestingly, all four progeny of Northern Giant are trained by Jason DaCosta. Behind Northern Giant is Bern Identity with two runners Brinks (whose dame is Indian Bluff); and Perfect Brew (whose dam is Moonlight Brew).
3 – Trainer Jason DaCosta is the only conditioner who will be starting horse/s in this race for the first time. DaCosta started his training career in Jamaica in late April of this year. DaCosta and Ian Parsard are the two conditioners who have not found success in this major two-year-old race.
4 – Only one apprentice has been able to secure a ride in the event. Oshane Nugent, a non-claiming apprentice rides number 4, Power Ranking. It is to be noted that jockeys (apprentices) with mounts in the Jamaica Two-Year-Stakes are not allowed to claim.
